"Cancer, you don’t have a chance."
Holden Rushing | Cancer Research Fundraiser
Call them Team Rushing. After all, when Tom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer his wife and son, Holden, were there for Tom. Dedicated to each other throughout surgeries, treatments and even post care, these three people decided cancer was not going to win this one.
Holden explains, “My dad had been at one hospital that wanted to do surgery immediately. They also gave my dad six months to live. But we decided to get a second opinion at a place that just happened to be the best cancer center in the world. That was seven and a half years ago.” It didn’t hurt that that “place” was right in their own backyard, here in Houston.
“We liked that MD Anderson had a completely different approach; they didn’t want to just rush into surgery. They provided options. What’s more, they just felt more confident." Providing a sense of confidence is a strength at MD Anderson, since we have every reason to believe we’re going to beat cancer, each and every time, for each and every patient.
Today, Tom is doing great and serves on the Board of Visitors to help advance the mission of MD Anderson. As is Holden, who’s a member of the MD Anderson Advance Team. As someone who’s seen MD Anderson’s work firsthand, Holden speaks quite eloquently about the need for more research, more cancer-fighting drugs, more, well, more everything.
“Given the resources, MD Anderson can solve anything.”
