"No more hiding, cancer."
Dr. Michael Curran | Cancer Researcher
Dr. Curran hates cancer with a passion. Loathes it, actually. His father died from it. But now, Dr. Curran fights back. Hard. As a researcher – or “a detective,” as he calls himself – he’s studying how cancer invades the immune system. He and his team try to help the immune system recognize the cancer in the body and then help it attack the cancer. Thus, fighting the cancer from within.
“The immune system is the most powerful tool for actually eliminating cancer. There’s no magic bullet. But what there is, is a collection of bullets that, when put together, can eliminate cancer.”
Dr. Curran and team specialize in finding those bullets and aiming them in the right direction. Speaking of team, Dr. Curran appreciates the very nature of MD Anderson. “MD Anderson’s been a really great place, culturally, to work…every place says it’s collaborative, but MD Anderson really has been…it’s been a wonderfully collaborative environment.
”A forward-thinking MD Anderson is poised to end cancer, in part, because of the integration between research and clinical groups. This collaboration of the best and brightest minds means thoughts and ideas get vetted quicker, becoming actual treatments faster. All working together toward one goal: ending cancer.
